BUSY AND STILL BUZZING! POETRY READINGS UK and USA! - a catch up on a summer of poetry in the depths of winter!

Busy and buzzing both sides of the Pond! 

June and July saw the Cumbrian poet enjoy readings and workshops on both side of the Atlantic. In early June she co-tutored on the Body Parts course with Penelope Shuttle at Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston. She and Penelope read in the Great Hall, which dates back to the 17thc and is considered to be the home of the Quaker Movement. Says Geraldine, “It was very special reading with Penny in the old Hall which is steeped in history and which has a feeling of deep peace and tranquillity. It’s where Margaret Fell lived with her husband Judge Thomas Fell and where George Fox preached his vision of light and equality. Penelope and Geraldine read from their latest collections, In The Snowy Air and Salt Road, respectively.

Later that month Geraldine joined up with New York poet George Wallace, co-tutoring with him at Brantwood Coniston, home of another visionary, John Ruskin. Clear blue skies, early morning mists over the lake and wall to wall sunshine, perfect for the Summer Solstice Poetry Course!  They also gave readings and workshops at Worktown Festival Bolton, Brewery Arts Centre Kendal, Write to Roam workshop near Kirkby Lonsdale and a talk at Swarthmoor Hall. Crossing the Pond to America Geraldine gave several readings and a workshop on Long Island, New York City and upstate New York, including Parkside Lounge NYC, Huntington Poetry Barn, Summer Gazebo Readings and the Walt Whitman Birthplace Long Island, Harmony Café Woodstock, Bright Hill Literary Centre Treadwell and Poets in the Park, Albany. "Thanks to our hosts George and Peggy Wallace, and to Dan Wilcox, Bertha Rogers, Cynthia Shor, Tony Iovino and Mike Platsky for inviting me to read. Geoff and I had blast!"

A bit of a whirlwind tour! interspersed with swims on the many wonderful beaches on Long Island, a visit to the Catskill Mountains – and yes she and her husband Geoff are sure they saw eagles and heard a coyote!  Geraldine sold copies of all the books she took with her of Salt Road and The Other Side of the Bridge, both published by Indigo Dreams. The covers and quality of the books were much admired and she sang the praises of Ronnie and Dawn, saying she couldn’t wish to work with more encouraging, supportive and professional publishers – Ronnie and Dawn’s ears must’ve been burning!

Building on the success of the Body Parts course with Penelope Shuttle, she and Penny are once again teaming up to co- tutor on the Midsummer Poetry Course at Brantwood Coniston June 19^th-21^st 2015. This residential course has already attracted a number of bookings, but there are still places left. You can book directly through Brantwood

November 16^th Living Words creative writing workshop ‘Healing Well’ Swarthmoor Hall

Planning ahead, 2015:

June 12^th Midsummer Festival of Words, Swarthmoor Hall – music and poetry in the gardens of the Hall, celebrating Geraldine’s time as writer-in-residence and also celebrating new work created by participants on the four Living Words workshops exploring elements, myths and the seasons.

Plans are also in hand for a further poetry tour in America, courtesy of New York poet George Wallace
